Endangered Beauty - by Liz Lambourn - Pastel

Liz began painting (for the first time in years) when she was in Papworth hospital for two months. Then, when forced to retire six or seven years ago, got interested in a variety of crafts - parchment craft; glass painting; silk painting; encaustic art; jewellery making; stamping and card making. "Following an RTC four years ago, which damaged my right hand/wrist, I lost interest in crafts (partly due to the injury and also because I suffered from PTSD). I began painting to try to kick start my artistic side again."

"I went to Peter Dalziel's 'Portraits and Pets' pastel classes, at the Lincolnshire Gallery, until I lost the feeling in my fingers and needed further surgery."

"This year, I've been to three workshops with Vic Bearcroft. I'll have a go with any medium and any subject. I like to experiment and push the boundaries using 3D elements. However, I love pastels and I love animals - they are my passion! It's thanks to Norman Rossiter, who very kindly sent me some pastel holders, that I am able to use pastels again as it had become impossible for me to hold them. I joined 'Kirkby Underwood and Rippingale' art group in August 2008 and began attending the demonstrations at SAACS. I have now become a member. I have a thirst for learning from others and I enjoy arts and crafts tremendously - so therapeutic. Everyone I've met has been friendly, helpful and supportive - what more could one hope for from a group of like minded people? After all, strangers are friends you have yet to meet."

"The above painting of a white tiger, together with one of a cheetah were both my very first sale and will remain special because of that."
